John G. Welsh to be Buried this Afternoon
Well-Know Resident Passed Away Early Yesterday
Funeral Services for John G. Welsh, well know Pensacola citizen, who died yesterday morning at 12:30 o'clock at the family home, 324 West Romana Street, will be held this afternoon from the residence and at 4 o'clock from Christ Episcopal Church.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Hendree Harrison and burial will be in the St. Johns Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be: George Lewis, Mon Roper, James Dunham, Fred Frederickson, Oliver Brawner, and Elmer. Honorary pallbearers will be: Alex Zelius, A. Henry White, Adrian Langford, John F. Acosta, Alfred Weller, and Captain I. H. Aiken.
Mr. Welsh, who was born in Birmingham, England, on November 16, 1857, came to Pensacola while a young man. During his residence here he had held a number of public offices, including that of City Tax Assessor, City Tax Collector, City Recorder, Alderman, County Commissioner, and County Treasurer.
Until he was stricken with his last illness, Mr. Welsh was active in fraternal circles, being a member for many years of the Pensacola Elks' Lodge, Woodmen of the World, and Knights of Pythias.
Mr. Welsh is survived by his widow, eight children, and 23 grandchildren. The children are: Mrs. F. R. Davis of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Mrs. Hans Hual, Mrs. F.F. Van Alst, Mrs. W.A. Bond, Mrs. R.F. Ellis, Miss Lois Welsh, C.F. Welsh, and T.E. Welsh, all of Pensacola.
