Ezra left Fort Worth with his cousin, Alexander Hamilton Connor, about 1876. He worked on ranches in west Texas and eventually drifted in to Alpine about 1885. By 1930 he was living in a small shack on the south side of the railroad tracks. On January 23 he collapsed and fell against the stove. The neighbors heard his cries and came to his asistance. He died the next afternooon. He was always called Ezra which got shortened to Ez, which the neighbors heard as Is. His obituary appears in the Alpine Avalanche January 1930, page 1 as Israel Harris.
