He was the founder of the Gerberich reunion and a farmer for many years, during which time and later he also worked at the carpenter's trade. He was prothonotary of Lebanon County, and was for nine years proprietor of the Uhrich Hotel at Harpers, which he left in 1890, moving to the farm where he spent the remainder of his life, a short distance east of Harpers. The house occupies an extremely picturesque location on a high bank above the bend of the Swatara at the junction of Indiantown Creek; it is now owned by his daughter, Mrs. R.J. Emrich. No one of the Gerberichs was better informed on the history than William Gerberich, and his copious notes were found extremely valuable to the historian. Any questions relating to descent and relationships were speedily solved by him, and he preserved the oldest traditions more accurately than any one. [History of the Gerberich Family in America]
