Mr. Berent was a native of Norfolk, Va., and was retired from the engineering department of General Electric Corp. He was a graduate of Maury High School and the class of 1932 of the Norfolk division of the College of William and Mary. He was a member of Temple Israel in Norfolk. He served as Scout Master for many years at B'Nai Israel Congregation. He was a member and former secretary and treasurer of the Norfolk Astronomical Society and a member of Brith Sholom Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Esther Laibstain Berent; two sons, Dr. Stanley Berent and his wife, Joy Berent of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Dr. Jerry Berent and his wife, Dr. Rusti Berent of Rochester, N.Y.; a brother, Nathan Berent of Norfolk; five granddaughters, Melissa, Alison, Rachel, Rebecca and Jenna, and two nephews, Stephen and Irwin Berent.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, 1995, in Forest Lawn Cemetery by Rabbi Michael E. Panitz and Cantor Isaac Danker. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Beth Sholom Home of Eastern Virginia, 6401 Auburn Drive, Virginia Beach 23462 or the Alzheimer's Disease Association, 20 Koger Executive Center, Norfolk, Va. 23502. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
