Mary Rosetta Patterson was born 19 June 1852 in Raymond, Racine County, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Alvis Houston Patterson (1826-1899) and Martha Fillmore (1830-1897). She came across the plains with her family at the age of 8 years departing Florence, Nebraska (now Omaha) on 20 July 1860. The family made the trip with the William Budge Company, arriving in the Salt Lake Valley on 5 Oct 1860. At the age of 19, Mary married Henry Erastus Stanley Gardner on 2 Oct 1871 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She is the mother of:
