Charles Page Benson I was born 20 Aug 1842 in Charlottesville, VA to Henry Benson and Elizabeth Clara Brown. He served in the Civil War as a Hospital Steward from 1862-1865. He was a druggist, starting out at the age of 16, (1860 Census). He married Nannie Mary Southall in 1869. She died during childbirth on 8 Jan 1873. He married again in 1882 to Henrietta Silcox Budd of Charleston, South Carolina. She died before 1900. As well as Charles Page I, both his wives and infant daughter are buried at Maplewood Cemetery in the Benson plot. They had 4 children: Effie Penelope, Charles Page II, Henry Douglas and Augustus Hardy. A Memoriam Letter from A.P. Bibb, Lt. Commander, Micajah Woods, Commander and R.W. Duke, Lt. Commander stating that he served in the war between the states, Charlottesvile Artillery, Maj. Keishaw's Battalion; John Bowie Strange Camp of Confederate Veterans. He helped cheer the sick and comfort the sorrowing. He was a druggist in Charlottesville for many years. His failing health caused him to give up his business. Two years prior to his death he moved to Richmond. He died in there in 1904 at the age of 60 yrs, 6 mo, 15 d.
