Sailed for foreign duty on 19 August 1918 on the Steamship Oxfordshire, then returned home and landed at New York. Honorably discharged at the Presidio, San Francisco at the rank of Private on 23 January 1919.

Dickinson joined Hollywood American Legion Post 43 in the 1920s, then re-joined in 1933 and remained a member from 1934-1956.
