Delbert E. Hostetter, 80, of Mandan went to be with the Lord on February 16, 2013 after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease. Services will be at Charity Lutheran Church, Bismarck at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 21, with Pastor Scott Bauman officiating.
Visitation will be from 4 – 6 p.m., Wednesday at the Bismarck Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6:00.
Delbert (Del) was born October 19, 1932 to Enos (Happy) Weaver Hostetter and Edna May Richardson Hostetter on a farm near Heckla, SD. He married Benava Jane Trout on September 12, 1961 in Britton, SD. They had three children.
He attended North Central Bible College in Minneapolis, MN graduating in 1954 and later attended Montana State University in Bozeman, MT. He was a pastor in Browns Valley, MN, Alcester, Woonsocket and Redfield, SD. After leaving the ministry, he worked as a contractor until his retirement.
The majority of his adult life was spent in the Gallatin Valley in Montana. There, he and Jane raised their children and welcomed their grandchildren. In 2006, they moved to Mandan, ND to be near their children and youngest grandchildren.
Del always had a story to tell and a pie to bake. He loved making people smile and enjoyed having coffee with his friends. His children learned math while playing cards with him. He took his family on "mystery rides" where the family had to figure out the destination.
After the children were grown, he and Jane lived in Manhattan, MT often visiting their children in Wisconsin, Washington and North Dakota. During this time, he cared for his father-in-law, Harold Trout, who came to live with them after the death of his wife. Harold called Del the "Paragon" because of the great care and love he showed him.
Delbert is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jane, his three children: Jeff (Kim) of Huff, ND, Mark of Aberdeen, SD and Nancy of Mandan. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Hallie (Ben) Echols of Bozeman, MT, Hannah Hostetter of Wenatchee, WA, Creed Hostetter of Minneapolis, MN, Tanner, Mollie and Maggie Hostetter of Huff; great-grandchildren William and Samuel Echols of Bozeman. He also survived by his brother Harold (Ruth) of International Falls, MN, sisters Ann Kimball of Columbia, SD, Lila (Clayton) Sanderson of Houghton, SD, Sharon (Bob) Taylor of Sioux Falls, SD, Lois Hostetter of Aberdeen, SD and Edna Keely of Aberdeen, SD, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Paul, Frank, James, John, and Enos (Bill), and sister, Mary.
Del spent the last few days of his life as a guest of the St. Gabriel's Community where he received loving and wonderful care. For the staff and the staff of St. Alexius Medical Center, Del's family is exceptionally grateful.
