Major League Baseball Player. Born in Austin, Texas, he was a right handed pitcher making his debut for the Atlanta Braves on April 20, 1979. For thirteen seasons, he played as a starting pitcher and middle-reliever with the Atlanta Braves (1979-88, 1991), Cincinnati Reds, (1989-90) and Montreal Expos (1991). In 1987, he tied a National League record with his third opening day shutout and was a member of the Cincinnati Reds World Series Championship (1990). He concluded his career with a record of 96 wins, 111 losses, 43 complete games, 9 shutouts, 6 saves, and a 3.99 earned run average. While serving in his second year as a minor league pitching coach for the New York Mets, he died of a heart attack at age 51 in Jupiter, Florida.
