Vera Mary Downs, 79, of Elm View Care Center, Burlington, died at 2:35 p.m. Wednesday, August 23, 1995, at Burlington Medical Center.

Born August 30, 1915, in Ottumwa, she was the daughter of Harry and Ethel Young. She first married Ralph W. Marshall and later married Donald Everett Downs on February 13, 1959, in Palmyra, Missouri.

Mrs. Downs had worked at the J. S. Schramm Company department store.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Ralph Leon and David Clark Marshall, both of Sperry; one daughter, Ethel Lona Marshall of Sperry; one stepson, Dwight Downs of Wapello; two sisters, Grace Manning of Ottumwa and Pearl Shafer of Burlington: eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, seven sisters, and one stepson.

There will be no visitation or services. Mrs. Downs has donated her body to the University of Iowa Anatomy Department. A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society.
