The remains of Hezikiah Whetstone were
brought here from Columbiaville Sunday and
funeral services were held at the M. P. church
of which deceased had been a member for
many years, being greatly interested in its
upbuilding in the community. Rev, Mikel
conducted the services.
His death occured at the home of his son,
Henry Whetstone, near Columhbiaville, where
loving children and grandchildren did all in
their power to comfort him in his declining
years.
Mr. Whetstone was for many years a much
respected resident of Mayville, but after
the death of his wife some two years ago
he went to live with his children.
He was born in England in 1827, and came to
Canada when 19 years of age. In 1836 he was
married to Miss Jane Catton who departed this
life May 27, 1802. Later he was married to
Mrs. Jane Harmon, who died June 4,1911, aged
81 years. In October 1862 he enlisted in the
union army as a substitute for Martin Fox,
serving until the close of the war, receiving
his discharge at Little Rock, Ark., During
this period he was in several battles, always
standing shoulder to shoulder with his
comrades in the discharge of his duty. He was
a member of Lonson Post, G. A, R. under
whose auspices the funeral was held,
