Warren J. LaFollette, a retired Lewiston chiropractor, died of congestive heart failure Sunday, April 18, 2004, at Tri-State Memorial Hospital in Clarkston. He was 79.

He was born in Lewiston Aug. 2, 1924, to Warren J. and Nell P. LaFollette. He attended grade school in both Colfax and Bishop, Wash. Warren graduated from Moscow High School in 1942.

Warren served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946, when he entered the University of Idaho, graduating in 1950 with a degree in agriculture. He intended to go into farming but changed his mind and attended Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa, graduating in 1953.

He opened his first office in Grangeville in 1953 and moved the practice to Lewiston in 1955. He later studied acupuncture and practiced chiropractic and acupuncture until he retired in June 1992.

While in college at the UI, he married his high school sweetheart, Nelda Rothwell, in 1947. They had three children. They divorced in 1967.

He married Micki Pingree in 1970. She died in 1980.

He married Pat Wade in 1982. They later divorced.

Warren loved to travel, especially by motorhome. He spent many fun-filled years traveling to Arizona, Mexico and other areas with his friends. He also traveled all over the world and was ready to go whenever anyone suggested a trip. He was also a great storyteller.

He was an avid fisherman, hunter, river rafter, dancer and gin rummy player. He loved boating, especially driving his jet boat up Hells Canyon. He loved to spend time at his floathouse on Coeur d'Alene Lake and his cabin at the Middle Fork of the Clearwater River.

Over the years Warren tried just about everything from flying airplanes to jumping out of planes. He loved riding motorcycles -- all over the country. He also enjoyed snowmobiling.

Warren was a member of the Moose Lodge in Clarkston and the Eagles in Lewiston. He was a past exalted ruler of the Lewiston Elks Lodge.

He lived at his home in Lewiston until two months before his death, when he entered the Idaho State Veterans Home in Lewiston.

He lived life to the fullest and said near the end that he had no regrets.

Warren is survived by a daughter, Kathy Malcom, of Gresham, Ore.; a son, Jess LaFollette of Lewiston; and a grandson, Scott Cary of Gresham.

Another son, Warren J. LaFollette Jr., preceded him in death in 1987. Also preceding him in death were his parents; and two brothers, Evan P. LaFollette and Charles R. LaFollette.
