David Neely, aged 72 years, 16 days, died at his home in Newport Friday morning of complications. He had been in ill health for eight years, unable to work the past six years and was bedfast since in August.
Mr. Neely was a son of Joseph and Catherine Stone Neely and was born in Cumberland county. After his mother's death when he was 6 or 7 years old, he was reared by Mr. and Mrs. John Swarner, near Loysville, with whom he lived until after his marriage to Miss Annie Sheaffer. He was connected with the Newport Tannery for thirty-eight years, serving as foreman and was a member of the Newport Reformed Church.
Surviving him are his wife, three sons, John, of Harrisburg; Charles, near New Bloomfield; Foster, of Newport; and three daughters, Alice, Mrs. Sheaffer, Newport; Pearl, Mrs. Loy Shumaker, Markelsville, and Claire, Mrs. George Barton, at home. Eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and the following half brothers and sisters also survive: Frank Neeley, H. W. Neeley, Oak Grove; Catherine, Mrs. S. C. Burkett, of Greason; Elsie, Mrs. G. W. Wolfe, and Mary, Mrs. Charles Warner, all of Harrisburg.
Funeral services were held at the residence Monday at 2 p. m., his pastor, Rev. W. D. Mehrling, officiating. Burial was made in the Newport cemetery.
