Knight, younger son of Sir John de Neville and Elizabeth Holand, grandson of Sir Ralph de Neville and Margaret Stafford, descendant of King Henry II.

Husband of Anne Holand, daughter of Sir John Holand, Duke of Exeter and Anne Stafford, daughter of Sir Edmund, Earl of Stafford. Anne was the widow of her second husband's nephew, Sir John Neville, who died shortly before Mar 16, 1450.
They had one son, Sir Ralph 3rd Earl of Westmorland.

John was summoned to Parliament, and was slain at the Battle of Towton, Yorkshire, on 29 March 1461, and attainted 04 Nov 1461.
