Fern O. Hoecker


Fern O. Hoecker of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Friday, February 15, 2013, at the Hillcrest Nursing Home in Blackwell, Oklahoma, at the age of 92 years.

Fern O. Hoecker was born in Blackwell, Oklahoma, on August 2, 1920, to Robert Lee and Virgie Edith (Houser) Dice. She grew up in Blackwell attending Blackwell Public Schools. Following her education she married Walter Edward Hoecker on September 11, 1942, in Winfield, Kansas, and they made their home in Olathe, Kansas, and in Virginia while Walter served in the United States Navy.

Following his discharge from the military they returned to Blackwell where she served her family as a homemaker. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Blackwell. On April 14, 2005, Walter preceded her in death and she continued to make Blackwell her home.

She enjoyed traveling, making crafts and playing dominos. She was also an avid bridge player and loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by a daughter, Colleen Groom and husband Richard of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; two sons, Neil Hoecker and wife Nona of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Glen Hoecker and wife Sharon of Ponca City, Oklahoma; a daughter-in-law, Clara Hoecker of Wichita, Kansas; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Wayne Hoecker; four sisters; and two brothers.

Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 20th in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Blackwell with Rev. Ned Moerbe officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be P.J. Chivaluskna, David Hoecker, Keith Hoecker, Adam Perryman, Chad Hoecker, and Paul Chivaluskna.

A memorial has been established in her honor with the Trinity Lutheran Church in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74361.
