Ebenezer Foote was a soldier in the Revolutionary War and died while in this service. He served with his good friend Ezekiel Sanford who later as a widower married Ebenezer's widow Rebecca Barker (Foote). Ebenezer is listed in the Revolutionary War records as being killed at Mud Fort, Horse Neck, Connecticut in June 1778. Horse Neck was a narrow neck of land sticking out into the Long Island Sound in the township of Greenwich, Fairfield County, Connecticut. It is now in what is called Old Greenwich.
