Albert was one of 6 children born to Henry C Hartzell and Victoria Ann Davis in Anderson, Indiana. After his parents divorced his mother married Barney Flanagan who raised young Albert to adulthood. Albert join the Navy and was stationed in various ports along the Atlantic coast. It was probably when he was stationed in or near New Jersey that he met his future wife. Albert married Marie Louise Guérard September 26, 1931 in Manhattan, New York and they had 2 children. His occupation in the Coast Guard transfered them to San Diego California in 1941. They soon settled in Long Beach where they raised their young family. After the death of his wife Albert attended Long Beach State College and Graduated in 1955 with a BA in social science. He became a teacher where he met another teacher, Gladys Stockton who he married in 1957. They retired to Mesa, Arizona where Albert remained until his death.

Services for Albert B. Hartzell, 79, who died Oct. 29, 1979, in St. Joseph's Hospital, were in Green Acres Mortuary, 401 N. Hayden, Scottsdale. Mr. Hartzell was a former high school and adult education teacher and real estate broker in California. He served as a chief petty officer in the Navy and was a Scottish Rite Mason. Surviving are his wife, Gladys; children, Maire Kramer and Roger; and two grandchildren.
