Orville F. Kunkel, 84, of Remsen, IA, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary, all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.

Orville was born on Feb. 10, 1929, at LeMars, IA, the son of Felix and Mary (Thill) Kunkel. He was raised in the Remsen area and attended school in both Oyens and Remsen.

On Feb. 7, 1950, he married Colleen Kennedy at St. James Catholic Church in LeMars. Over the years the couple resided on farms in the Remsen area. They retired from farming in 1995. In 2002 they then moved into Remsen. After his retirement Orville enjoyed driving truck for Bunkers Feed in Granville.

Orville was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and weekly trips to WinnaVegas.

Survivors include his wife, Colleen of Remsen; ten children, Chuck (Mary) Kunkel of Omaha, NE, Kevin (Audrey) Kunkel of Fremont, NE, Michelle (Dave) Reinholdt of Canon City, CO, Jim (Karen) Kunkel of Marcus, IA, Renee Sheehan of Remsen, Barb Pierson of LeMars, David Kunkel of Remsen, Roger (Kristy) Kunkel of Sioux City, IA, Connie (Kurt) Schneekloth of Oakland, NE, and Shannan (Bill) Schreiner of Remsen; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Marvin Kunkel of Remsen; three sisters, Shirley Ellensohn of LeMars, Janet (Gene) Wurth of Remsen, and Mary Jo (Jim) Peters of LeMars; one sister-in-law, Shirley Elser of Hartley, IA; three brothers-in-law, Larry (Janet) Kennedy and Pat (Marilyn) Kennedy both of LeMars, and Drs. Al (Ramona) Kennedy of Cherokee, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Duane Kunkel; one son-in-law, Larry Sheehan; one brother-in-law, Don Ellensohn; one sister-in-law, Darlene Kunkel; and his father- and mother-in-law, Elmer and Margaret Kennedy.

Casketbearers will be his grandsons, Chris Kunkel, Dustin Kunkel, Jason Reinholdt, Ryan Sheehan, Beau Pierson, and Nick Schreiner.

Honorary bearers will be his granddaughters and his other grandsons.
