After the war, her father was discharged from the service and they migrated from Utah to Southern California settling in Baldwin Park, a small community about 18 miles east of Los Angeles. They lived at 4339 Harlan Avenue where Gloria was raised until she was married.
Gloria attended school in the Baldwin Park school system. After graduation from high school she attended Brigham Young University for 3 semesters. She married Dennis Steven Stokes, also of Baldwin Park. They were married in the Los Angeles Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on 3 June 1966, returning to Brigham Young University where Dennis graduated.
After graduation, they went to work for the Federal Government, first in Salt Lake City and then in Los Angeles. In 1974 Dennis transferred to Washington, D.C., where they lived in Northern Virginia for 8 years. They returned to southern California in 1981 and went to work at the Navy base in Port Hueneme.
In addition to raising 6 children, Gloria was active in church holding numerous positions in the Women's Relief Society, the Young Women's Organization, and the seminary program of the church. She also worked as an interpretive Specialist for the City of Ventura at the Olivas Adobe historic site.
Gloria was diagnosed with cancer in January 2012. She died about one year later on February 14, 2013. She is buried at the Conejo Mountain cemetery in Camarillo.
