Mrs. Lawson was born in Union County on August 22, 1908, a daughter of the late Edgar Eugene Sanders and Julia Alverson Sanders. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family
A life-long member of the First Baptist Church of Union, she retired from the Union County Sheriff 's Office after 38 years service and in 1962 was appointed the first female deputy sheriff in Union County.
Surviving are a grandson, Steve Brooks Jeter of Union; a special nephew, Dr. E.M. Hughes of Newberry and other nieces and nephews; two great-granddaughters and very special friends, Linda Tucker, Clydie Linder, Linda Jenkins, Judy Bobo, Susan Weeden and Mollie Taylor.
Mrs. Lawson was predeceased by a son, Fred O. Lawson Jr. and a sister, Jean Elizabeth Hughes.
Graveside services were held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 30, 2005 at Forest Lawn Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Robert Emory.
