On April 14, 1865, PVT Jacob Soles was one of six Union soldiers that carried the mortally wounded Abraham Lincoln from Ford's Theater in Washington DC and across 10th Street to Peterson House, where Lincoln died.

Soles's grave has been visited by school children from Braddock every year since his death. On the anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's death, they place flowers around this marker.
