Archie B. Clay, know as "Chick" by most of his friends and family was born to Virgil C. and Nettie Dan (Harris) Clay on June 12, 1923 in Kelton, Texas. He departed this life on Friday afternoon, September 27, 2002 at the age of 79.

Chick was raised in and around the Kelton, Texas area along with his six brothers and six sisters. He served in US Army during World War II from October 18, 1943 to February 18, 1946. He was, upon his discharge, a Sergeant in the Battery B 1st Field Artillery Battalion. He served in New Guinea and Luzon, receiving decorations and citations for the Asiatic Pacific Theater and the Philippine Liberation.

Chuck married Della Jo Groves on April 19, 1946 in Wellington, Texas. They had six children; Carolyn, Marilyn, Donna, Debbie, Archie and Carla. Chick and his family moved to the Guymon area in 1969, moving into Guymon in 1975 where he went to work for the Guymon School System as a Bus Driver and Mechanic, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Guymon Eastside Church of Christ.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Nettie Dan (Harris) Clay; two brothers, Bradford and Bryce Clay; two sisters, Ruby Sammons and Valli Jolley and one daughter, Marilyn Buck.

Survivors include his wife, Della Jo Clay of Guymon; four daughters, Carolyn Barker and husband, Gerry of Sayre, Okla., Donna Gover, Debbie Costner and Carla Seymour and husband, Billy Joe all of Guymon; one son, Archie B. Clay, Jr. of Guymon; seventeen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; four brothers, Charles and Lois Harris of LPampa, Texas, Cooy and Willie Pearl Clay of Shamrock, Texas, Chaunccie and Imogene Clay of Amarillo, Texas and VC. and Peggy Clay of Shamrock, Texas; and four sisters, Oopal Jo and Delbert Mitchell of Amarillo, Texas, Willie and Denver Warren of Amarillo, Teas, Wanda Jean Fleming of Pampa, Texas and Lois Hall of Amarillo, Texas.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon, September 29, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Eastside Church of Christ in Guymon, Okla. Burial services followed at the Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon with military honors provided by the Ft. Sill Honor Team.
