"Practitioner of Physick" in the town of Cambridge [near present-day Greenwood, S. C.]. Julia Gaines (FaG contributor JP [#47920306]) contacted me and indicates that the Shaw of Guilford Co., N. C., who first bought land on Broad River in S. C. in 1785 from John Moultrie was William Hance Shaw, Sr. [speculation: maybe connected/father of William...1760-1788...in Abbeville; William D. McCain book of 1974 somehow makes that connection].

Book: Eight Generations of the Family of John Shaw (1788-1858) and His Wife, Nancy Worthy Shaw, (1788-1846) of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Mississippi, by William D. McCain, Hattiesburg, Mississippi, 1974...apparently privately printed and not copyrighted.

Julia further notes that she is descended from the above Dr. Shaw's daughter, Matilda, who is said to have married Dr. Andrew Smyth & then (after Smyth died) William Williams.

Julia notes that William Hance Shaw died in Kentucky several years after Dr. Shaw died in Cambridge.

Julia also notes that there was a William Shaw with a son named James Shaw who died in the USA. The James Shaw named in the will of Dr. William Shaw of Cambridge was also a "Practitioner of Physick" & died in London, England in about 1812 & named siblings in his will...including Matilda Williams.
