Mr. Crain had been a patient here since Aug. 13. Mr. Crain was Carbondale Fire Chief for over 26 years, and was a past president of the State Firemen's Association.
He also was the developer of Meadow Brook Estates near Carbondale.
He was a member of the Blue Lodge of Carbondale and the Council of Murphysboro; a 32nd degree Mason of the Consistory, a member of the Ainad Shrine, East St. Louis, and was past president of the Carbondale Sphinx Shrine Club.
He was a veteran of World War I, and served overseas for 18 months.
Mr. Crain was a member of the First Methodist Church.
He was born in Jackson County June 27, 1895, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Riley Crain.
He leaves daughters, Mrs. Sharalene Peters of Carbondale and Mrs. Edelle Coffer of Vergennes; his mother, Mrs. Ada Crain of Du Quoin; one grandson and five sisters, Mrs. Ethel Ashauer of Santa Monica, Calif., Louise Crain, Mrs. Bessie Horstman, and Mrs. Julia M. Huckaba, all of Du Quoin; and Mrs. Vernice Thetford of Pinckneyville.
Services will be at 2 p. m. Thursday in the Van Natta Funeral Home, with Rev. Edward Hoffman officiating.
Johnnie Barringer of East St. Louis will conduct the consistory ring ceremony.
Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday.
