Henry Lindfield who died following a car crash while driving back to Brighton from London. Henry died in hospital, following surgery. The car went out of control as it approached Purley and crashed at Russell Hill Road. The car is believed to have been an electrically-powered Imperial, though the coroner's report may seem to suggest that the machine was powered by petrol. The site of the crash is on the route of the annual London-to-Brighton veteran car rally and there appears to be no suggestion that hundred-year-old cars cannot negotiate that hill. However, at that time, conditions may have been different. Russell Hill Road is on the outside of a left-hand bend, at the base of Purley Way. One may imagine that Henry may have been buried at Brighton, but this is not clear at present.

Some may note that the name Henry Lindfield is common in the Cowfold area, some miles north of Brighton, but I know of no direct relationship.
