Funeral services for Bernard B. "Bernie" King, were held in Mojave on Jan. 19, 1974. Widely known and respected in the area, Bernie was renowned for his ability to fix anything from antique watches to electronics apparatus, for his immense knowledge of all things technical, and for his friendly personality. He was always available with a helping hand.
Bernie was born in Hawkins, Wisconsin, on May 26, 1918, and passed away at his home, 2869 Benito, on Jan. 16. He was an electronics engineer with the Zenith Corp. for many years. Always active in all types of communications, he was a pioneer in radar, television and printed circuit technology, and holds several patents in these fields. He also designed many of the UHF television tuners that are still in use today. Even after retiring from the engineering field, he maintained an active interest in it.
- He was also a lover of music, and played professionally for several years, becoming an accomplished musician on the saxophone, clarinet and violin.
He and his wife, Betti, opened the Desert Specialties Co. on Inyo St. several years ago. There, Bernie's hobby of watch repairing became his occupation.
