PETTERS, SELMA B. (NEE BERNSHOUSE) 94 - of Blue Anchor, died at home June 4, 2010. Predeceased by parents Andrew K. and Elizabeth Bernshouse, husband Henry F. Petters, Sr., son Henry F. Petters, Jr. and brother Wilbert Bernshouse. She is survived by sister Elizabeth Jennings of Sumter, S.C., daughter-in law JoAnn Petters of Blue Anchor, sons John (Carol) of Mays Landing, Robert (Kathy) of West Berlin, Roy (Enid) of Mullica Hill,: grandchildren Tom (Lisa) Petters, Stacy (Carmen) Grasso, Mark (Amy) Petters, Sharon (Anthony) Turco, Julia Petters, Ryan (Eileen) Petters, Brian Petters, Wade (Kim) Petters, Daniel Petters and ten great grandchildren. Born in Sumter, S.C., Selma came to Hammonton in 1937 to help care for her grandmother for the summer. Not long after, she met Chick and never went home. They moved to his family homestead in Blue Anchor in 1941 where she became very busy raising four sons. Selma found time to be an active member of St. Lucy's Church, President and long time member of the Blue Anchor PTA, head cook at Blue Anchor school , waitress at the Blue Anchor Tavern, pastry chef and waitress at Chateau Bilaz in Hammonton, finally retiring after many years as a receptionist at Ancora Hospital. She was a member of Winslow Twp. and Atco Seniors and a member of both the Winslow Twp. and Hammonton Historical Societies. Selma was also well known throughout the area for her hand decorated cakes, but especially her chocolate roll. In 1994 Selma was selected Winslow Twp. Citizen of the year. Selma was a 73 year member of the DAR, serving for many years as historian. She was also very proud of being a member of the Mayflower Society, tracing her roots to the Plymouth landing
