Simon Thomas (S.T. , Tom) Ellis passed on to his heavenly home on February 9, 2013 at the age of 91. Tom was born to John Mundy and Rosa Crowell Ellis on July 10, 1921, in Atlanta, GA. He learned and pursued a strong work ethic on his family farm in Fayetteville until enlisting in Army Air Corps the day following the bombing of Pearl Harbor, serving in WWII from 1941 through 1945, serving as Tech Sergeant and Flight Engineer. He then moved to McDonough at the request of his bride, Ann Kathleen Branan where they made their home together for the next 57 years. Tom graduated from Crichton's Business College and was employed as a bookkeeper then claims adjuster while attending Woodrow Wilson School of Law at night, and began practicing law with E.L. Reagan in 1952 and actively practiced law until the age of 85. He was easily identified as the McDonough lawyer with the bow tie walking across the square the same way he lived his life: fast paced. He pursued his political interests at a young age, serving as a McDonough City Councilman in 1952 until his appointment as McDonough City attorney from 1954 until his election to Georgia House of Representatives and the Georgia Senate until 1965. He was appointed as McDonough City Attorney from 1965 until his resignation in 1997. In 1964, he became a charter board member and organizer of The First State Bank, serving on the Board of Directors until 2001 at the age of 80 and as its legal counsel until 2007. Tom loved to golf, hunt, and fish and was active in many community and church organizations, teaching Men's Sunday School classes for 40 years, serving as deacon, coaching men's softball and youth baseball teams, charter board member of Henry County Water Authority, county attorney. His family was most blessed by his unconditional love and dedication and unquestionable moral integrity, leaving an authentic and generous legacy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Branan Ellis, his son, T.A. Ellis. Surviving are his daughters and son-in-laws, Ann Elaine (Jerry) Rouse, Mary Lynn (Ray) Lambert, grandchildren: Robyn (Al) Ellis Vaughn, Ansley, Sadie, and Rip Lambert, great grandchildren Jake and Rayce Vaughn, and Ryker Lambert, brother Sid (Henrietta) Ellis, sisters in law Sara Ellis and Elsie Branan Patrick, numerous nieces and nephews, and most special friend, Nancy Hollingsworth.
