Son of Edward and Bertha (Ingold) Trofholz. He graduated from Kramer High School and attended Doane College. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Navy during that conflict. Upon his return, Vernon owned and operated Trofholz Bakery in York for many years. He was a longtime active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York, the York American Legion Post 19, as well as being an active fisherman, hunter, woodworker, and gardener. He was joined in marriage to Marilyn Jourdan at Columbus on September 5, 1948 and they were the parents of Sally and Terry.
