Irene was raised in Hominy where she later graduated with the Class of 1941, from Hominy High School. Following high school Irene began working at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa, Oklahoma during the war time effort. She worked in the parts delivery department often delivering the parts on roller skates. Irene was later united in marriage to her high school sweetheart Thomas Logan Shoup on April 23, 1943, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The couple established their home in Hominy, Oklahoma. In the early 1960's, Irene worked at Munsingwear and later began working at Spot Bargain. Irene and Thomas raised their three children in Hominy where she resided until 1989. Irene loved to travel. Irene and Thomas would travel throughout the United States and would always spend their winters in McAllen, Texas. She was an avid bridge player and loved to dance every chance she had. She also took many tours with local groups to numerous different places. Irene was also very active with the Senior Citizens. They would travel to North Dakota to visit his family as well as attend Navy reunions. The couple also took several cruises throughout the Caribbean.
