December 15, while rafting logs on the Green River at Livermore, Kentucky, Elihue was accidently killed. The river was at a very high stage of flood waters and a group of men were rafting a large string of logs down the river. Due to the high current the logs became unmanageable and the men had to leave the rafting and get to shore. Elihue jumped from the logs to a large sycamore tree root that was sticking out of the water near the riverbank. His wet boot slipped off the root and he fell into the water and the logs caught him and crushed him against the bank. He lived about 2 hours after the accident.
