He was a very hardworking farmer, Planting tobacco, and cotton. He rose early and worked late as any good hardworking farmer did. He hosted the Evangelical Revival on his farm for the 7th Day Adventist preacher that came there and also became a Charter member of the church planted there in Warren Co. Kentucky.

Quote from a paper written by Gilbert Beck, Grandson of Rueben Beck. Below

"The Beck's were pioneers and came from Virginia to Kentucky. My grandfather Reuben Beck acquired a fairly large farm in Warren county, Kentucky and that is where he raised his family and spent the rest of his life.
This part of the state is very hilly and required a lot of hard work to obtain a living from not too rich a soil, but by diversifying the farming operation with the live stock raising, hay and grain and many kinds of fruit, those that had the willpower could do very well with this kind of lively-hood, which he was able to do.
The location of his farm was only a few miles from Bowling Green, the county seat of Warren County. It was also just a few miles from the great Mammoth Cave.

The Beck family were avid Bible students and for many years were members of the Church of Christ. Sometime around the turn of the century the Beck's accepted the beliefs of the Seventh Day Adventist teaching, and most of the family became members.
