James Clifford Carroll, age 85, of Grayson, Kentucky, passed away Saturday afternoon, February 9, 2013, at the V.A. Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia.

He was born April 11, 1927, in Carter County, Ky., a son of the late John Thomas and Ethel Colley Carroll.

James was of the Baptist faith and was a retired apartment complex manager. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by four sisters, Jerlea Paynter Ransey, Inez Stewart, Lacy Lee, and an infant sister, and his caregiver, Charles "Bucky" Paynter.

James is survived by his caregiver and niece with whom he lived, Brenda Paynter, one brother, Clayton Carroll of Morehead, Ky., three nieces, Brenda Kay Carroll, Sharon Paynter, and Joyce Conn, and one nephew, Johnny Stewart. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Ky., with Brother Bobby Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Nelson Carroll Cemetery on Church Ridge Road in Grahn, Kentucky, with full military honors conducted by the Olive Hill American Legion Post No. 138.

Friends may visit from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2013, and until the service hour on Wednesday at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Highway 60, Olive Hill,
