James M. Massey, devoted husband, loving daddy, granddaddy, great granddaddy and faithful friend, was born February 10,1921 in Oil City, LA. He left this earth, and his most recent home at the House of Hope, on February 9, 2013 in Wichita Falls, TX at the age of 91. A celebration of James' life will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 12th at Lunn's Funeral Home, Wichita Falls, TX, with services conducted by Rod Payne and Bill English ministers of First Baptist Church. A family burial will be at Bethesda Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Lindale, TX.
James and Nora Joyce Henderson were married June 28, 1948, in Lindale, TX. James and Joyce celebrated 64 years of marriage together.
James gave his life to The Lord when he was 17 years old. He has served Him faithfully over the years. He was a devoted Deacon since 1953. He has served on numerous committees at First Baptist Church since moving to Wichita Falls in 1968. He served as Outreach leader of his Sunday School department, drove a church bus for 12 years and was part of the First Baptist Church Builders Group.
James served his country in the Air Force during World War II for 3 ½ years and the Korean War for 1 year.
James worked for Exxon Company U.S.A. for 33 years before retiring in 1982. He served as a member of the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank, Downtown Lions Club, SCORE-Service Care of Retired Executives, and was a volunteer for Income Tax Vita Program for 12 years.
James enjoyed camping and traveling with family and friends all over the United States and was a member of the Rocking Wheels Good Sam Club.
James was preceded in death by his parents Terrell and Lelia Massey, a brother Randolph Massey and a sister Vera Pittman. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Massey; children, Don Massey and wife Valorie, Gail Dewoody and husband Mark, Janet Ayers and husband Tommy. Ten grandchildren, Jason Hill, Lindsey and Cullen Curl, of Wichita Falls, Jacob Hill of Bolder, CO; Kyle and Seth Dewoody of Wichita Falls; Katie Massey of Plano, TX; Kelly and Miles Peterson of Wichita Falls; Emilee and Gabe Boyd of Plano, TX; Chad & Alicia Ayers and Kendal Ayers of Wichita Falls. Five great granddaughters, Berkley, Halle & Paisley Boyd, of Plano, TX; Caylee Curl of Wichita Falls and Annalynn Ayers of Wichita Falls.
The family will be available for visitation after the memorial service.
