Martha Simmons Brown, 78 of Winston-Salem passed away peacefully Thursday at her daughter's home in Archdale. Born March 20, 1934 in Winston-Salem, Mrs. Brown is a daughter of the late Oscar Burton Simmons and Pauline Martin Simmons. She graduated from Mineral Springs High School and attended Appalachian State University. In earlier years, Mrs. Brown was a choir director in several Methodist churches which enabled her to share her love of music with others. She had a varied sales career, Mrs. Brown managed the Robbins Clothing Store at Thruway Shopping Center, she was one of the first female salespersons at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, she was a sales manager for Avon and a wedding consultant at Montaldos, retail sales at Lilly Ruben and she was a receptionist at Triad Guarantee. Most recently she enjoyed volunteering at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in the surgical care waiting room, where she ministered to families. Mrs. Brown will be remembered as a loving mother, and kind and gracious person. She attended and taught Sunday School at Ardmore Baptist Church where she loved teaching the youth and college age groups. Mrs. Brown was married to the father of her children Ralph Ladoux Beeson, and for over 20 years to Bill Randall Brown, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Brown is survived by two daughters, Susan Beeson Smith and husband Jerry of Archdale, Deborah Louise Martinat of Winston-Salem and two step children, Beverly Mills and husband Paul of Lake Norman and Mark Brown also of Lake Norman. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Allison Simmons Moore of Asheville, Donald Craig Moore, Jr. of Greensboro, one brother Oscar Curtis Simmons of Winston-Salem and Louise Simmons Shore and husband George of Raleigh. Funeral services for Mrs. Brown will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service High Point with the Reverend James Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park. The family will greet friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be given to the Baptist Children's Home, PO Box 338, Thomasville, NC 27360.
