The Oklahoman, Wednesday, November 23, 1988:
Roger Lee Givens, 79, born December 18, 1908 in Calvin, Oklahoma; died November 21, 1988 at St Anthony's Hospital, OKC. Graduate of Central High School and Oklahoma City University. He was a builder and developer until his retirement in 20 years ago. Mr Givens was most interested in the Oklahoma City Zoo and was a strong supporter also of the Acquaticus, and OKC University.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie, whom he married October 4, 1931; and three children, J. Vernon Givens of Houston; Anabel Minter of Austin, TX; and Charles S. Givens of OKC; 7 grandchildren, Suzanne Peck, Los Angeles, CA; M. Tyler Peck, Houston; Michael G. Minter, Austin; also, Julie, Jean, Charlie and Katherine Givens; a brother, J. O. Givens of OKC.

Memorial services will be held at the Angie Smith Chapel at OCU. at 11 am Wednesday , November 23, 1988. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to OCU, Acquaticus, Oklahoma Zoological Society or the Community Foundation. Arrangements by Smith & Kernke Funeral Home.
