Mary Ellen Bird, 73, of Rome passed away on February 4, 2013. She was born in Lyons Falls, the daughter of Raymond F. and Iris Lindecker Shaver, on April 30, 1939. She was a graduate of Saint Aloysius Academy. On July 26, 1958, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Glenn E. Bird, in St. Mary's Church. Mary was employed by Marcy Psychiatric Center for thirty-three years as a therapy aide.
Mary enjoyed reading, eating lunch with her fellow retirees, caring for her Dad and spending time with her grandchildren. Somehow, the grandkids always seemed to win when they played a game.
Surviving are her husband Glenn; father Raymond; two daughters and a son-in-law, Janet Garmany, and Tracey and Jack Remillard, all of Rome; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Catherine Bird of Ava; ten grandchildren, Julie, Daniel, Sarah, David, Zachary, Kelsey, Jason, Ryan, Matthew and Jack; and four great-grandchildren, Brandon, Evan, Owen and Cassidy. Also surviving Mary is her brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Shirley Shaver, Prescott Valley, AZ; and nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her mother, Iris, and brother Ervin Shaver.
Funeral services will held on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Philp Hearn. Burial in Crown Hill Cemetery in the spring. In keeping with Mary's wishes, there will be no visitation. Rome Sentinel 2/6/2013
