"Reaka" was the first of ten children born to Evert and Riktue "Rachael" (Ten Bosch) Tysseling both born in the Netherlands. Her siblings were Bertha born 1876, Herman born 1878, Nickalas born 1881, Albert born 1884, Lena born 1889, William born 1890, Anna born 1893, Edward born 1895, and Pearl born 1898. Her father did general farming in the Black Oak area. She attended school to the 5th grade.

February 28, 1901, she married Peter, son of Gerrit and Maria (De Jong) VanDe Haar. Peter, also, engaged in general farming in the Black Oak area where they owned their own farm.

They had three children - Marie Gertrude born 1902 who married Peter Pippel, Everett Richard born 1903 who married Anna Rus, and Gretta Elizabeth "Betty" born 1911 who married Arthur J. Rockel.

Reaka was laid to rest in the Black Oak Cemetery at age 81.
