Daughter of John Brown and Matilda Christie Brown of Marshall, Fauquier County, VA.

Married Samuel Burrell Wines, son of Thomas Wines and Kitty? Wines on August 7, 1856 in Fauquier County, VA. If Burrell was born 1841 and Nancy was 2 years older then she would have been 17 years old when she married and he would have been 15 . According to the Census Records, Burrell and Nancy could neither read nor write. This might explain the discrepancy in their ages too.

Nancy died on 21 April 1877 and is buried in the Ramey Cemetery in Dungadin near Front Royal, VA. thus explaining why in the 1880 US Census, Burrell Wines is listed as a widower. When Nancy died her family stepped up to help out Burrell with all these young children. Their children are not living with Burrell in the 1880 Census. His eldest son, Charles would have been 20 years old and on his own. The other children - Annie, William Rosser, and Mary J."Mallie" were being cared for by Nancy's brother Charles T. Brown and family in Marhall, Fauquier County, VA. George is living with a different family most likely working on a farm nearby. Another child, John H. Wines was not included in the 1870 Census because the Census was taken on 16 August 1870 and John was born on 22 Sep 1870 . By the 1880 Census John H. Wines was 10 years old and was living with Charles T. Brown's daughter, Sarah C. Brown Hunt, who was his cousin in Fauquier County. The children may have been separated in order to provide adequate housing for them. John Hampton Wines who was born 22 Sept 1870 died 8 Oct 1892 is buried in the Ramey Cemetery in Dungadin Subdivision, Warren County, VA together with his mother, Nancy Ann Brown Wines and brother Charles H. Wines.
