FLOYDADA — Harold Bertrand, 87, of Floydada died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, in Wichita Falls.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church in Floydada with the Rev. Tim Franks and Dr. Derrell Monday officiating. Burial will follow in Lakview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Floydada.

Harold was born April 7, 1925, in Clifton to Paul Felix Bertrand and Hallie Oswald Bertrand. He moved with his family to the Floydada farming community when he was 8 years old, graduating from Floydada High School. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II from Nov. 18, 1943, to May 25, 1946, in the Pacific Theater, including the battle of Iwo Jima.

Harold married Laurita Mae Stambaugh on June 12, 1947, near Kress, where they farmed about three years. They returned to Floydada to farm in the Lakeview community, where they raised their three daughters. Harold served on several community and area boards. He was an active member of First Baptist Church for more than 50 years. Harold and Laurita eventually retired on the same farm in the Lakeview community.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Laurita, on March 17, 2012; his parents; his brothers, Oliver Neal Bertrand and William Fredrick Bertrand; and a sister, Gladys Alene Widener.

Survivors include three daughters and their spouses, Donna and Bob Robillard of Lawton, Okla., Janna and Dr. Derrell Monday of Vernon and Kim and Dean Hinton of Wichita Falls; six grandchildren, Lychelle McIlroy and husband Don of Iowa Park, Kathy Flack and husband Mark of Midland City, Ala., Emily Smedley and husband Michael of Fredericksburg and Jason Garrett and wife Caity, Kyle Hinton and wife Autumne and Brad Hinton, all of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 11 great-grandchildren, Conner, Samuel and Cassidy McIlroy, Kennedy, Tucker and Addison Garrett, Tyler, Callie and Rylee Smedley and Dacee and Ryan Flack; two sisters-in-law, Faye Bertrand and Helen Bertrand; a brother-in-law, Harvel Roy Stambaught of Cross Plains; and many nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church of Floydada or Senior Citizens Center in Floydada.
