A 74-year old Momence man was found dead this morning, an apparent suicide victim, according to Patrick Cleary, deputy Kankakee County coroner.
Holger Madsen, 77, 319 N. Pine St., Momence, was found in bed about 8:30 a.m. today by his wife. Cleary said Madsen had placed a plastic bag around his head and apparently had died shortly after he went to bed Sunday night.
The deputy coroner reported Madsen had been in ill health and had recently been released from Riverside Hospital. there were no signs that the death was anything other than self-inflicted, Cleary said. A inquest will be scheduled.
Madsen had been a farmer for a number of years and then operated a gasoline bulk station, delivering gasoline and oil for the Kankakee Service Co. for several years.
He was born on a farm near Kankakee on March 3, 1895, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Mogens Madsen. He was married March 10, 1920 in Kankakee to Emma Jensen. She survives along with a son, Glen of Bradley; daughter, Mrs. Ruby Nagle of Bradley; brother, Carl of San Clemente, Calif; sister, Mrs. Margaretha Johnson of Momence; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at the First United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Erwin Pratt officiating. Burial is to be in Momence Cemetery. Visitation will be at Ruge Funeral Home from 1 to 5 and 7 to (rest of obituary isn't printed).
