George was raised in Lexington and graduated from Lexington High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II with the Navy Sea Bees. Most of his tour was spent on Guam. George came to Nevada in 1951. He worked for the MKT Railroad for nine years. George retired from the Missouri Department of Revenue after 30+ years of service. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Nevada Elks Lodge #564.
Survivors include one son, Lawrence E. Dobson and his wife Jean, New Roads, LA; six grandchildren, Jeff Dobson, Holloway, LA, Susie Ingram and her husband Darron, Libuse, LA, Christy Eaves and her husband Scott, Ventress, LA, Luke Ducote, Ventress, LA, Andy Remington and his wife Donetta, Nevada, and J. J. Curtis and his wife Betsy, Nevada, seven great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Mary Jo Dobson, Kansas City, MO, and Helen Handley, Pueblo, CO, numerous nieces and nephews, and one son-in-law, Monte L. Curtis. He was preceded by his parents, his wife Bernice in 2007; one daughter Linda Curtis, and one grandson, Jeremy Ducote.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 1, 2013, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nevada with Father Tom Albers celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home. Rosary service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday evening, February 1, at the funeral home with visitation following until 8:00 p.m.
