Ellabell - Hershel "Billy" Sikes, 66, died Thursday at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah after a long illness. He was a Tattnall County native and had lived in Cobbtown until he moved to Bryan County 24 years ago. He was retired from the Georgia Ports Authority.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Marie Rewis Sikes of Ellabell; three daughters, Mrs. Lois Appleby of Garnett, S.C., Mrs. Peggy Todd Moxley and Mrs. Thelma Campbell, both of Brooklet; a sister, Mrs. Dollie S. Davis of Savannah; four brothers, Barney and Homer Sikes, both of Cobbtown, Preston Sikes of Savannah and W. S. Sikes of Florida; and nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Hooks Mortuary in Metter, with burial in Bulloch Memorial Gardens in Statesboro.
