Ms. Akers was born June 13, 1931 in Clay Morgan, Virginia.

Weber City, VA – Connie J. Akers, 81, loving mother and grandmother, of Weber City, Virginia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, January 18, 2013. Ms. Akers was born June 13, 1931 in Clay Morgan, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late William Morris Stidham and Margaret Bently Stidham. During her lifetime, Ms. Akers worked many years in the restaurant industry. Ms. Akers loved to cook. She was also a faithful Christian who loved to read her Bible, write poems and gospel songs. She truly loved the Lord. Ms. Akers was of the Baptist faith and attended Victory Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Akers is preceded in death by her husband, John E. Akers Sr.; her sister, Bea Murray; and 2 brothers, Frank Stidham and Roy Stidham.
Survivors of Connie J. Akers include 4 daughters, Norma Bennett and husband Bruce (Kiln, MS), Donna Hyatt (Kingsport, TN), Janice Litz (Blountville, TN), and Mary Cody (Blountville, TN); 3 sons, Woody Akers and wife Linda (Weber City, VA), Ronald Akers (Gate City, VA), and John Akers Jr. (Gate City, VA); 9 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; 3 sisters; 3 brothers; special cousin and friend, Marlene Davidson (Gate City, VA); special friend, Betty Mann (Gate City, VA).
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Colonial Funeral Home (Weber City, VA).
A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Holston View Cemetery (Weber City, VA). Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Colonial Funeral Home no later than 1:30 p.m. to go to the cemetery in procession. Robert Meador III, Brian Younger, Matt Hensley, Jamie McDavid, Mike Davidson, Woodrow Akers, and Bruce Bennett will serve as pallbearers.
