Son of Marion and Jean (Zuerl) Pennington. He had been a lifelong resident of the Keytesville area. Joel was a farmer, a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Salisbury and the Boy Scouts of America. He was also a Cub Scout leader, executive with the Missouri Pork Council, the Dalton 4-H, Keytesville FFA and earned a State Farmer Degree. He graduated in 1973 from Keytesville High School, where he was in the band and on the Student Council.
Mr. Pennington was a pure breed Duroc hog breeder and showed hogs at various state fairs and other competitions.
Joel was preceded in death by his father, Marion A. Pennington, on March 17, 1988.
Services were held at the Berry Funeral Home in Keytesville.
