L.J. Garrett born in Texas and the family moved to New Mexico. He worked at a garage working on cars ,when he met Grandma he was with his brother Loie , he was a Texas Ranger and took L.J. with him while transporting a prisoner on the train. At the train station L.J. met his future wife working in the Harvey Restaurant. He would ride his horse or his Harley Motorcycle over to see Grandma (and she rode an Indian Motorcycle ) to the Shields ranch to see her, they only saw each other 3 times before they got married in 1922. Their first move was to Lavoye, Wyoming where he started up an Electric company to supply electricity for the workers at the Oil Camps in the evenings but his day time job was in Casper at the Chevrolet Auto, that's where he lost his fingers when someone hit the the gas peddle. Their friends Tom & Bonnie moved with them and they both started their family’s , L.J. Jr & Tom were born in Lavoye and his brother Edd Lee also moved up there and lived N.W. of Lavoye. After selling the power company they all went up to Gillette, Wyoming for a short time and then moved to Yucaipa, California where he owned a service station and an Apple Orchard, Lelamae was born while living here. After the Earthquake ruined their home & his Garage they moved to Los Angeles and bought an old Church and made it their home & set up an Upholstering business where they re-upholstered car seats for a used car lot. On a Sunday drive they went to Acton and found a sign about an auction on the Old Acton School House, so they went back and bid and won the bid for $301. And moved to Acton, then during the War they both worked for Lockheed and moved to Kagel Canyon and after the war they went back to Acton where they built another home. Their son Thomas had already brought his wife Alice to Acton and they were living in the old school house. In later years they moved to Langlois, Oregon where they lived out their lives until "Granger" died of Prostate Cancer the day after Christmas in 1978. He loved to fix things and work in his yard on cars and he did that up until the day he was put in the hospital and died. He loved his children and grandchildren and many times as we were growing up he would tell us the story of his father, James Henry Garrett and Billie the Kid. They grew up together in West Texas, worked together and went separate ways but always stayed in contact with each other. Two years after he was supposed to have been killed by Pat Garrett he showed up at the family ranch and stayed for a week and talked about going to California to pan for gold. Years later when my father, Thomas Garrett was 10 years old he read with his Dad an article in the Herald Examiner about an old prospector out in Death Valley who died and had claimed to be Billie the Kid. He had a silver plate in his head and a newspaper clipping of the New Mexico Cattle Wars in his pocket. When he read that he knew Billie the Kid had made it to California after all. The silver plate in his head was there from an accident when they had worked at the Matador Ranch in West Texas and my great grandfather's pitch fork had slipped and stuck in Billie's head and after surgery a silver plate was put there! My story is attached to my grandfather's page on Ancestry.com.

He joined his parents in heaven and left his wife of 57 years Mamie, his children L.J. Jr (Maxine), Thomas (Alice), Lelamae (Robert Jackson) & David (Joan) Garrett and his many Grand Children & Great Grandchildren.
