Centertown native dies in foggy crash

William (Bill) Chinn, Jr., 27, Route 4, Bowling Green was killed Saturday night in a one-car accident on US 31-W five miles South of Bowling Green near his home.

Chinn was en route home from work in Louisville when he lost control of his car in a heavy fog and struck a sycamore tree.

He was employed as a salesman for school fund raising projects in Kentucky and surrounding states.

Chinn was the son of William Sr. and Mary Ruth Bennett Chinn, Centertown.

He was a 1968 graduate of Ohio County High school and received a Bachelor of Music Education from Western Kentucky University in 1972. He was a member of the Big Red Marching Band and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, honorary fraternity for men. He was also a non-voting member of the academic council and was named to the National Student Registry. He was band director at Adair County High, Columbia for four years and had brought his band to Ohio County festivals. He and his wife, Mary Ann, served as band festival judges. Chinn was one of five Columbia men named Outstanding Young Men of America in 1975.

Surviving besides his parents and wife are a son, William Jason, Bowling Green, a sister, Becky Ann Chinn, Centertown, grandparents, Mrs. Loga Bennett, Grand
Junction, Colorado and Guy L. Bennett also of Colorado.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m., Tuesday at the J.C. Kirby Funeral Home Chapel, Bowling Green conducted by Rev. Boyd Jordan, pastor of the Auburn Presbyterian church. Burial was at Ebenezer.
