Raymond Claude Pegram was born on February 3, 1885 in Humphreys County, Tennessee, the son of Benjamin Petus Pegram (1856–1919) and Mary Elizabeth (Johnson) Pegram (1854–1905).

He was married in 1906 to Ida Mai Hoppis (1888–1963), the daughter of Andrew W Hoppis (1840–1907) and Rachel Ivy (Howell) Hoppis (1853–1934). They moved to Nashville about 1919.

A retired self-employed automobile salesman and was living at 1600 Forrest Avenue in Nashville. He was 73 years old, married and fractured his hip early in March 1958, and he died of a stroke on April 13, 1958 at Davidson County Hospital where he had been for five days.

Survivors included his widow Ida, daughters Mrs Herbert Parrish and Mrs Leon Roland Jr of Pegram, Tennessee, sons A B Pegram, J W Pegram, R L Pegram and W B Pegram of Nashville, Tennessee, Claude E Pegram in Los Angeles, California and John E Pegram at Louisville, Kentucky, brothers Walter Pegram in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Elve Pegram at Barberton, Ohio, Ernest Pegram in Gainesville, Florida and W E Pegram in Nashville, sisters Mrs Walter Smith of Waverly, Tennessee and Mrs Minnie Ola Collier in McEwen, Tennessee, twenty-seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held on April 15th at Cosmopolitan Funeral Home, and burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery, Nashville.
