Mary was the daughter of Greenberry (G B) Griffith and Fathia Rhodes. After Fathia died G. B. married Frances Jane Smith. Mary had 2 brothers, David C. R. Griffith and Jessie Terrell Griffith and one sister Nancy Evelyn Griffith Holbert. Her half sister was Sarah Elizabeth "Lizzie" Griffith Brem and her half brother was John Taylor Griffith. They all moved to Texas with the Arthur's in about 1855.
Mary and John married in 1849 in Franklin County, VA. They moved to Texas from Virginia in a covered wagon. The Arthur's were among the first founders of Saltillo and Mary was one of the pioneer women and after her husband John died in 1882 she raised their youngest son Henry Dow who was my grandfather. She was my great grandmother and her step mother, Frances Smith Griffith, was my great great aunt.
