Sister Evelyn Ann Schumacher, OSF, age 93, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, died Friday morning, January 4, 2013 at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc.

The former Alice Marie Schumacher was born on May 7, 1919 in Woodsfield, Ohio, daughter of the late Leo and Barbara (Weisend) Schumacher. She entered the Convent in 1933 and professed her vows in 1937. Sister Evelyn Ann earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Holy Family College, Manitowoc, Wisconsin, a Master of Science Degree in Education from Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska, and a Master of Arts Degree in Theology from Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Sister Evelyn Ann served as a teacher at St. Paul, Wrightstown, St. Paul, Manitowoc, Holy Family College, Manitowoc, and St. Mary, Waukesha, Wisconsin; St. John, Wellsburg, West Virginia and principal at St. John the Baptist, Plymouth, Wisconsin. Between 1974 and 1988, she spent time as a researcher and writer of Spiritual books at St. Boniface and Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, St. John, Komate, Arizona, St. Christopher Convent, West Convina, California. She also spent six months as a core member at Our Lady of Solitude House of Prayer, Black Canyon, Arizona. In 1988, she served as coordinator of St. Francis House of Prayer, Manitowoc and performed various tasks at San Damiano Convent, Slinger, Wisconsin. Since 2007, she had been residing at St. Rita Health Center at the Motherhouse. She is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.

Survivors include The Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; three sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law: Carol Schumacher, Newark, Ohio, Marie Dobranetski, New Philadelphia, Ohio, Ada Schumacher, Woodsfield, Ohio and Frank D. Jennings, Charleston, West Virginia. Nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Placid Stroik, O.F.M. with burial at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.

The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2013. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Family Convent Chapel.

The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
